I am 500 words from 70,000

Holy cow!  And English 318 starts in a couple of days!  I hope Sanderson will let me continue working on this novel for the class–but if not, I have some other cool ideas.  I may have to do like Aneeka and write two novels at the same time, but I’m definitely going to finish this one by April (rough draft, at least)!

This makes The Lost Colony the longest novel attempt that I’ve ever made…

Planet New America, which I started right after coming home from my mission, stands at approximately 69,200 words in its present incarnation.  I got to about 71,800 with that one at the high point, then I started having trouble with it so I decided to revise in order to figure out where I needed to take the story.

After paring it down a bit, I realized that the basic premise of the story was the source of the problem, and since it would require a complete reconceptualization to write, I decided to put it indefinitely on the back burner.  No hard or bitter feelings, no sense of failure–I just figured it needed some time.  Maybe one of these days I’ll pick it up again.

So yeah, my story is getting pretty freaking huge.  But I’m still way excited about it!  The story still retains its sense of coolness in my mind, which is incredibly encouraging to me as the writer!  And I want to write!

I wrote a little over 1,000 words today, but I definitely would have written more if it hadn’t been for Alpha Centauri  And now, with the first official day of classes having already hit us, I think I’m going to have to delete this game.  It’s just too freaking addictive!  I tried to limit myself to 20 minutes today, but I think that cumulative I ended up putting in between 2 to 3 hours.  Yikes!  I don’t need that in my life right now!

Speaking of which, I need to get to bed if I’m going to wake up early tomorrow…and do the homework that I should have done this evening.  I swear, English 318 is going to be the class that keeps me in college this semester.

And I was so much looking forward to classes until I looked at the Arabic 202 syllabus…
